SUMMARY:38th Mannheim Film Symposium
DESCRIPTION:38th Mannheim Film Symposium “Between Reality and Fiction: Generative Artificial Intelligence in Film and Film Production”\nThe rise of AI\, accelerated by the widespread use of ChatGPT since November 2022\, has sparked discussions across all sectors\, including cinema. Films like Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” predicted the complex relationship between AI and humanity\, a topic that remains relevant today. \nThis year’s Mannheim Film Symposium at Cinema Quadrat will explore AI’s impact on the film industry\, addressing both its potential and challenges. Actors and screenwriters face new job security threats as AI technology advances\, a concern mirrored in recent protests and debates within the industry. \nThe symposium will feature insights from filmmakers\, philosophers\, and sociologists on the psychological and societal implications of AI. It will also examine AI’s role in film production\, questioning whether it will enhance creativity or lead to mechanization and reduced creativity. \nDavid Kutschke\, developer at Volucap\, will present how AI-generated characters and volumetric capture technology are fundamentally changing film production methods in Hollywood. His talk will examine the diverse ways AI and volumetric capture transform film and series production\, allowing actors to be digitized in three dimensions and even creating new digital humans using AI and deepfakes. This innovation offers many new possibilities but also poses risks for actors\, prompting a discussion about the future role of artists. \nJoin us to engage in discussions about how AI is transforming film and to explore what the future holds for this rapidly evolving technology. \nFind the program here. \nFor meetings contact: mail@volucap.de
