In 2016, a dead man acted in a Star Wars film. Peter Cushing, passed away in 1994 but a CG likeness of him was painstakingly recreated from individual frames to perform his scenes in Rogue One. Today, it is common place to scan important actors at various stages of the filmmaking process, this is both to aid VFX and also in case something were to change the actors’ appearance (ie. mortality, or a moustache). But what happens to these assets when we die? Can actor’s continue to perform posthumously? Who owns our digital likenesses? The Studio? The film? What happens if they become public domain?
