GRW 2.0 – Expansion of the Volucap Innovation Cluster

Project Description

With the project “GRW 2.0 – Erweiterung des Innovationsclusters”, Volucap GmbH is building upon the infrastructure created during the first funding phase of the volumetric studio in Babelsberg. The aim is to further develop technologies, workflows, and networks in the field of volumetric video capture, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR).

A central focus lies on ensuring non-discriminatory access to this key technology and promoting knowledge transfer between research, industry, and the creative sector. By expanding cooperation with regional and international partners – including research institutions, universities, and companies – the project aims to position Brandenburg as a European competence center for volumetric and immersive media production in the long term.

Project Objectives:

• Expansion of the innovation cluster and integration of new VR/AR production and processing technologies.

• Strengthening technology transfer between research institutions, SMEs, and the media industry.
• Further development of production infrastructure, particularly in data processing, real-time integration, and mobility.
• Creation of a digital library and exploration of new application areas, such as the documentation of contemporary witnesses.

Expected Results:

• A modernized, internationally competitive production environment for volumetric content.

• New standards and tools for immersive media productions.
• Sustainable networking between research and industry in the field of digital media technologies.
