AUFWIND

AUFWIND VR EXPERIENCE

The first two German women to assert themselves in the male domain of aviation

Aufwind, a VR experience, tells the story of the encounter between two young Berliners, Charlotte Möhring and Melli Beese, in the Ruhr region. The two women were the first Germans to assert themselves in the male-dominated world of aviation and obtain pilot’s licenses. The VR experience, which was filmed at Volucap in Babelsberg using state-of-the-art volumetric capture technology, offers viewers an immersive look at the lives of these pioneering women.

Charlotte Möhring and Melli Beese were both born in Berlin in the late 1800s. They were both passionate about aviation, and they were determined to break into a field that was almost exclusively reserved for men. Despite facing many obstacles and challenges, they were able to obtain their pilot’s licenses and make a name for themselves in the aviation world.

The VR experience, Aufwind, takes viewers back in time to the early 1900s, when Charlotte and Melli were just starting out in their aviation careers. The viewer is transported to the Ruhr region, where the women trained and worked as pilots. Using volumetric capture technology, the VR experience recreates the sights and sounds of the time period, giving viewers a glimpse into the world of these pioneering women.

As the viewer follows Charlotte and Melli on their journey, they see the women overcome various challenges and obstacles. They face resistance from the men in the aviation world, who are skeptical of their abilities and are not eager to welcome them into their ranks. But Charlotte and Melli are determined, and they persevere, eventually earning their pilot’s licenses and making a name for themselves in the aviation world.

Aufwind is not only a fascinating look at the lives of Charlotte Möhring and Melli Beese, but it is also a testament to the strength and determination of these two women. They broke through barriers and paved the way for other women in the aviation world, and their story continues to inspire and empower women today. The VR experience, with its immersive and realistic depiction of the time period, is a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance and determination in achieving one’s goals.

The VR Cinematic Experience “Aufwind” has been nominated for the La Biennale di Venezia “Venice Immersive” competition and will be showcased there!
