VIRTUAL HISTORY
CICERO AT ROMAN FORUM
CICERO AT ROMAN FORUM
A project by the Film University Potsdam makes a virtual walk through the Roman Forum possible. As a result, viewers can experience history “real” and interact with what they have seen and heard. The pilot project “Virtual History” researches new forms of representation in film on the one hand, and on the other hand it creates a medium for the experimental use of scientific results, which should initiate further critical discourses and questions. For scientists and the public, it means: Virtual history experience is a means to approach a real understanding of history.

CICERO HOLOGRAM
In order to place the Roman politician, lawyer and philosopher Cicero as lifelike as possible in the digital environment, the developers at the film university were able to win actor Joachim Berger from Potsdam’s Hans Otto Theater for three-dimensional scanning in the volumetric studio on the premises of Studio Babelsberg . Berger was dressed in a toga and made-to-order Roman sandals.
FORUM ROMANUM IN VR
Using the example of the ancient Roman Forum in Rome, it is shown how a scientific-artistic processing of current archaeological research results in virtual reality enables completely new sensual and intellectual experiences.
