ProFIT: VoluStar – AI-powered platform for editable volumetric avatars

Project Description

VoluStar is a research and development project by Volucap GmbH, focusing on the creation of a modular, AI-powered software platform for the generation, editing, and integration of lifelike volumetric avatars. The project combines high-resolution volumetric capture with generative AI to develop editable, realistic digital humans for film, XR, and media production.

Objectives

The goal is to research and implement standardized, scalable methods for producing and integrating realistic 3D avatars into film production workflows. By combining volumetric imaging with advanced AI models, the project aims to make the creation of flexible, realistic digital actors technically and economically viable.

Expected Results

• A prototype platform for AI-assisted avatar creation and editing.
• A standardized data model and processing pipeline for volumetric capture.
• New benchmarks for realism, interactivity, and production efficiency in digital media.

The results are expected to establish a new technological standard for digital human representation and strengthen Brandenburg’s position as a hub for innovation in media technology.
