Volucap has been creating cinema-quality deepfakes for productions like “The Matrix Resurrections” since 2020. We have developed a novel hardware and software combination to meet all the requirements of major Hollywood productions that go far beyond existing deepfake technologies. We integrate with existing VFX pipelines by keeping metadata and color information consistent, creating novel and authentic AI-powered VFX.
Our deepfake capture rig enables continuous data capture on location to provide a deepfake guarantee after shooting. Capturing actors in their roles under controllable lighting conditions enables deepfakes of more consistent and higher quality.

THE DCAP – DEEPFAKE CAPTURE RIG
Volucap’s Deepfake Capture Rig – The DCAP – or sometimes called Crazyrig – allows a very fast deployment on set to capture all important data points for precise and robust machine based training. Capturing on location with the actor in his real role allows a more authentic creation of deepfakes. Lighting information from individual scenes as well as different makeup effects can thus be trained more effectively for AI.
LIVE-DEEPFAKE
Our device-independent 5G Live Deepfake solution was presented for the first time at the XR Day. The live deepfake is processed via our in-house cloud in Babelsberg and then sent back to the cell phone. The caller can see their live Deepfake and do not need any additional hardware. The streaming of the live deepfake can be done from any cell phone, camera or accessible livestream and can be displayed in different devices like LED walls at live events, in mixed reality headsets like the Quest Pro or on other smartphones.
The use of deepfake technology in live performances has the potential to revolutionize the entertainment industry. With the ability to create digital versions of real people, performers could take on new roles and create completely new experiences for audiences.

DEEPFAKE MAKEUP TRANSFER
Full faces or complex SFX makeup and prosthetics effects can be transferred between different people. This gives the confidence to reuse effects in later shots and easily recreate makeup in post-production.
VOICESWAPPING
Replaces one person’s voice with another. By analyzing data sets, linguistic peculiarities can be evaluated, and an appropriately learning AI can train to imitate them with pinpoint accuracy.
BODY-PUPPETRY
Body puppetry transfers certain movements to existing video material of another person.
